The Roman Coliseum of Pula, Croatia

One of the greatest parts about being in London is that you’re so close to the rest of Europe, it’s so cheap and easy to hop around and explore different countries and cultures.

I decided to pop over to Croatia in October for some sun, some beach and some culture. The best priced flight I could find was to a smaller beach town called Pula that was also the home to some really well preserved Roman architecture.

It was dope to see some of the old military bases, the Roman Coliseum that was one of six of the best preserved ruins in Europe and cliff dive into the Adriatic Sea. I just brought my new (old) Olympus Trip 35 film camera that I bought in London at a car boot sale and shot on Kodak Ektar 100, perfect test roll for the rich blues and greens of the Mediterranean.

Best Things to do in Pula:

  • Explore the well preserved Roman architectural ruins
    • The Roman Coliseum was really impressive to visit in person
  • Visit the gorgeous pebble beaches and jump off a cliff into the Adriatic Sea
    • Seagull’s Rocks was the most interesting area to explore, swim and try to sneak into an abandoned military base (which I was quickly escorted off by armed soldiers, lol)
  • Taste Adriatic and Mediterranean style cuisine
    • Freshly grilled fish and seafood with first press olive oil is the move here
  • Practice your Italian (because Croatian is too hard to pick up)
    • Italian is the official second language of Croatia, ciao!
